WHO ARE WE?
The 'Bodmin Heritage Diesel Group' consists of a small band of the railways volunteers who are interested in the preservation, maintenance and operation of ex British Railways diesel locomotives.
WHAT LOCOMOTIVES DO WE HAVE?
Class 50 042 ‘Triumph’ and Class 37 142 are owned by shareholders within the group.
Whilst Class 47 306 ‘The Sapper’ is privately owned.
Class 33 110 is owned by the Bodmin and Wenford Railway Trust.
The Class 08 444 (D3559), Class 10 (D3542) and P408D diesel shunters-
are owned by the Railway and Association.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We carry out nearly all the restoration and maintenance on the railways fleet of Ex-BR mainline diesel locomotives and assist the railways staff with Ex-BR & industrial shunters.
These locomotives are almost exclusively crewed from within the B&WR diesel volunteer ranks.
WHEN DO WE MEET?
Normally on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Once you become acquainted with the workshop equipment and setup you can attend to suit yourself.
HOW CAN I HELP?
There is normally something to do on one of the fleet of loco's!
You do not need to have any specialist skills as there are large amounts of tasks for all,
a second pair of hands is always useful.
Some of the more specialist tasks include top coat painting, metal fabrication, mechanical and electrical engineering or you could just lend a hand with these or more general tasks.
(All volunteers and work is subject to B&WR Policy)
CAN I GET INVOLVED IN THE OPERATIONS?
Regular volunteers can normally go on to become train crew, meaning second men and eventually drivers.
B&WR operate a training program for suitable candidates with on the job training,
rule book theory (with exam), a medical and finally a practical assessment.
Individuals then qualify for the roles they have trained for and can then take a turn on the roster.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The only cost is that you need to be a member of the Bodmin Railway Preservation Society (BPRS),
which then covers you for insurance.
Current individual membership of BRPS is just £22 per year (2017 rates).
Other BRPS membership options are available.
