Autumn Diesel Gala 2019

Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2019

2019 Autumn Diesel Gala is across 2 days Saturday & Sunday this year.

We are delighted to have managed to secure the hire of first of class type 2 26007 (D5300) kindly supplied by Victor Korzeniewicz to be guest loco at this years gala.

This type 2 loco and its class mates have never been this far south & west before, making this another first for Bodmin Railway and Cornwall.

D5300 built in 1958 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company at Smethwick, was the first class 26 of 47 built and was also one of the last to be withdrawn in Oct 1993.

The Sulzer 6LDA28-A, 1160hp rated engine will sound great hauling on our Cornish gradients! Being also dual braked 26007 will be seen at both Boscarne and Parkway at times solo!

The 2019 Diesel Gala will see the re-launch of 47306 'The Sapper' following completion of its 3+ years overhaul by the Bodmin Mainline Diesel Group volunteers.

Show cased at this years GWR Long Rock open day, the group has been busy for the last six months recommissioning and finishing all the small tasks! Resplendid in RFD livery it is going to make an excellent partner to 26007.

Its anticipated that the gala will also include the three other homefleet ex-mainline locomotives,

33110, 37142, 50042 as well.

Our Bubble car 55020 (121020) first of the class 121's built in 1960 and the last mainline passenger service vacumm braked unit to still be in service 2017, is also likely to feature in the gala.

Our timetable is being worked up to include plenty of interconnecting trains @ Bodmin Parkway for incomming and onward mainline connections.

Not forgetting there will also be Real Ale & Ciders available both days from Bodmin General Platform.
